He was born August 7, 1933 in Schaumburg, Illinois the son of Bill and Mary Haberkamp. He was raised and educated in Illinois. He later was drafted into the US Army where he served for 2 years. He married Alice Marie on May 16, 1953 in Warrenville, Illinois. They lived in Illinois until Jan 10, 1972 when they moved to Sagle.
Mr. Haberkamp worked with his hands throughout his life. He was a craftsman involved in making of beautiful cabinets for much of his life. After moving to Sagle he owned his own shop with Alice actively involved in the business. Family was always important to LeRoy and he dedicated himself to them, especially Alice during her brave 5 year battle with cancer.
LeRoy enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cars; driving, fixing, tearing down, and rebuilding. Perhaps the greatest gift he had was the gift of communicating. He loved to talk to people and they responded with warmth in return.
He is survived by 3 children: Mike (Linda) Haberkamp of Sagle, Rod (Becky) Haberkamp of Elizabeth, Illinois, Margie (Mel) Fondse of Marysville, WA; by 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; and 1 brother Lavern Haberkamp of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice on May 27, 2009, his son Clay, by his parents, and 1 sister Bernice.
The family would like to express their appreciation to his neighbor Frank who kept him plowed out, Neil Wells for his long friendship, Drs. Cope, Crane, Carlson, Burgstahler and their nurses and staff, and the team at Kootenai Medical Center ICU for their love, patience, kindness, and care shown LeRoy.
The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society.
