Dorothy Jane Johnson

Dorothy Jane Johnson, 85, life long Sandpoint resident, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 at Huckleberry Retirement Center. Memorial services will be conducted 1:00 PM Friday, Jan. 28, 2011 at Coffelt Funeral Chapel. Dale Coffelt will be officiating with inurnment in Pinecrest Memorial Park. Dorothy was born in Sandpoint, ID on March 1, 1925, the daughter of Arthur and Clara Cash. She attended local schools, graduating from Sandpoint High School in 1943. She had worked for JC Penny’s and Beaner’s Downtown Marina. She went to work for Bonner County on June 5, 1973 working for planning and zoning and for civil defense. In 1974 she was working for the county commissioners and had training in operating the new switchboard for the county. She became the “voice for Bonner County” answering all calls except the Sheriff’s calls. She was Secretary to the Commissioners for many years prior to her retirement on Feb. 28, 1997. She was a member of St Joseph’s Catholic Church and enjoyed being out of doors, walking, bicycling, and her flowers. She will be remembered as a Loving Mother. Dorothy is survived by 3 sons Mike Johnson in Sandpoint; Steve Johnson in Kansas; Mark (and Dee) Johnson in Snoqualmie, WA; 2 grand daughters Amber Humphrey and Tiffany Gaul; and her daughter in law Debbie (and Dave) Slaughter in Sandpoint. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Bruce, a brother and a sister.
