Barbara Peterson

Barbara Lucille Stephan Peterson passed away peacefully in her home around 10:00pm, Monday, February 7, 2011 at age 87. She was known as the “Bag Lady” at local bingo games. Barbara was preceded in death by her siblings, Mildred Stephan, Mary Elizabeth Merchant, Joseph Henry Stephan, Margaret Swisher, Agnes Hayworth Marshall, Alice Miller, Thomas William Stephan, Katherine Parker and Louise Sweet. Barbara was born to Ellen Veronica and Henry Joseph Stephan on August 24, 1923 in Hammond, Indiana. She moved to Sandpoint in 1954 and worked for the Sandpoint Laundromat. She enjoyed roller skating, swimming, bicycling, and reading. She is survived by her best bingo friend, Pat Sauer; by eight children: Carol (Gary) Vandenberg, JoAnn (Mike) Jones, Howard (Gloria) Peterson, Marie (Tony) Miller, Barbara Howard, Darlene Poesehl, Martin (Vicki) Peterson and Cindy (Al) DeSalles. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren: Laura Dofelmier, Doug (Cindy) Dofelmier, Howard III, (Coila) Mathew (Rebecca) Peterson, William Miller, Angela Miller, Christina (Sam) Mauch, Teresa (Jones) Rees, Kathyleen Howard, Chad Howard, Clayton (Shannon) Tope, Luke Peterson, April (Brent) Stevens. Barbara was blessed with fifteen great grandchildren: Calob and Taza Dofelmier, Denali and Remmi Peterson. Rhett and Emalyn Peterson, Tony Miller, Jane and Kate Mauch, Michael and Mathew Rees, Robert and Dillon Tope, and Grace and Payton Stevens. There will be a gathering at her home to honor her life, Friday, February 11, 2011 at 12:00PM. Friends are welcome to come to 927 Hickory St., Sandpoint, Idaho.
