Josephine “Josie” Grace Rogers, 96, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2007 in Sandpoint, Idaho. Friends may call, to pay their respects, on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 from 12:00 noon until time for the Vigil Service at Coffelt Funeral Service. The Vigil Service with Rosary Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM, Wednesday, May 2, 2007 in Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel, 109 N. Division Ave., in Sandpoint, Idaho. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 3, 2007 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 6th and Oak in Sandpoint, Idaho. Father Dennis C. Day will officiate with interment following in Pinecrest Memorial Park. Josie was born in Spokane, WA on Nov. 29, 1910 the daughter of Frank and Martha (Fish) Rogers. She began her schooling at St Xavier in Spokane. The family moved to Sandpoint in 1922 and she completed the 8th grade at Farmin School in 1926. She graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1930 and Lewiston Normal Teachers College in 1932. She later earned her bachelors degree in the early 1960’s. Her teaching career, with the Bonner County School System, began at the Grouse Creek School. She then taught at Kootenai and in 1941 began teaching at Farmin School. Over the years she also taught at New Farmin, Lincoln, and Washington schools. She was well known for teaching the second grade and at one time was the “Head Teacher” for the Lincoln School. She retired in 1975 after a teaching career spanning 42 years and including generations of students from Bonner County. Josie was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and also a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, a teacher honorary sorority. She enjoyed her trips to California to visit family, reading, gardening, and going for walks in town. She loved her family and looking out for her nieces and nephews, She is survived by – her sister Connie Greenleaf, of Sandpoint; 3 sister-in-laws Murle Rogers, Patricia Rogers, and Wilma Rogers, all of Sandpoint; her special caretaker Anda Boardman, of Sandpoint. Also surviving are 9 nephews Don, Phil, Felix, Tom, Mike, John, Johnnie, Gary and Roger. 10 nieces Paula, Barbara, Laurel, Patty, Kathy, Marty, Carol, Linda, Francie, and Leslie. Her parents, 7 brothers Felix, Albert, Al, Joe, Frankie, Johnnie, and Les; 2 sisters Mary, and Lillian, 1 nephew and 2 nieces preceded her in death. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church building fund, 621 Oak, Sandpoint, Idaho 83864; or to a charity of ones choice.
