Hazel Maxine Emery, 94 passed quietly away to be with her maker on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the Guardian Angels Assisted Living Facility in Liberty Lake, WA.
Hazel Trimmer was born April 10, 1916 to Clyde O. and Grace Bell (Curtis) Trimmer in Richardson County, Nebraska, where in the depression of the late twenties and the early thirties she spent most of her formative years. From Nebraska she and her family moved to War Road Minnesota, and from there they moved again, this time to Sandpoint, Idaho, where her father Clyde had relatives. Hazel attended high school in Sandpoint until just 6 weeks before graduation when the family moved once again, this time to Palouse, Washington, where she did graduate from high school. It was in Palouse that she met Marvin (“Barney”) Emery who would become her husband. The two were married in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on June 6, 1936 with her parents acting as witnesses.
After briefly living in Spokane, then Seattle, the young couple, now with two sons, moved in the early 1940’s first to a small farm in Kootenai, Idaho and then ultimately to Sandpoint, establishing a home on a small acreage on North Boyer Street. With the exception of a couple of years, or so, when she worked at the P.G. Hayworth Bakery, Hazel remained a housewife throughout her married life. When “Barney” retired after 33 years with Pacific Power and Light, He and Hazel moved in 1979 to a home in Greenacres, Washington.
Hazel was predeceased by her parents, and by her husband of 73 years in January 2010; by her only sister Fairy Opal MacCormack in San Diego, California in 1983. Hazel Maxine is survived by her two sons, Duane Neil, of Spokane/Arizona and Evan Lee of Seattle, WA; two grand daughters: Pamela Notely of California and Sharon Stagner of Coeur d’Alene, seven great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
At Hazel’s request private family services will be held with burial in Pinecrest Memorial Park.
