Helen Ruth Brown

August 20, 1920 — March 19, 2011

Helen Ruth Brown, 90, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho on Saturday, March 19, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 23rd in Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel. Chuck Wigton will be officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 22nd, from 2 pm until 6 pm at Coffelt Funeral Service. Helen Ruth was born August 20, 1920, to parents Amelia and Farrell Quigg at the family homestead north of Winnett, Montana. She attended school in a one room tar paper shack and graduated from the 8th grade at the age of 11. Times were very hard, and all of the family worked daylight to dark, especially when the depression years of the early 1930’s hit. Neighbors helped neighbors, the only way all could get by. In 1938 she married Roy Kindt at Lewistown, Montana. They lived 3 years in Winnett, and then moved to Stanford, Montana, where they spent 3 years. In 1943, they headed west to Sandpoint, Idaho where Roy worked at the Sandpoint News Bulletin for 23 years. Roy passed away on June 6, 1966 at the age of 52. For several years she worked at the Elks Lodge in Sandpoint. She waited tables and cleaned after the big dinner functions. She enjoyed that as she got to see all the Who’s Who in Sandpoint dressed up in their finest. She then worked at Don’s Drive-In for many years until her marriage to Ellsworth Brown in 1968. She always said she enjoyed working there, as she met a lot of people and watched a lot of kids grow up, especially the high school girls who worked as car hops. She especially enjoyed the people she worked with and formed longtime relationships with them. Following her marriage to Ellsworth, the couple lived on Gypsy Bay, Sagle; and started the Gypsy Bay waterfront development. Ellsworth passed away on January 12, 1998 and Helen moved into Sandpoint in 2008. She loved traveling, dancing, pinochle and other card games, reading and get togethers with family and friends. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Sandpoint. She is survived by sons Donald (and Judy) Kindt in Springfield, Oregon; William (and Lavina) Kindt in Sagle, Idaho; daughter Sandra (and Douglas) Lasso in Sagle, Idaho; grandchildren Scott Kindt in Vancouver, WA; Rusty and Keelan Kindt in Springfield, OR; Shane Kindt in Anchorage, AK; Darcie Kindt in Homer, AK; and Byron Dahl in Sandpoint, ID; great grand daughters Katelyn and Kylie Kindt in Vancouver, WA; Amelia Dahl in Arlington, VA; and great grand sons Shay Dahl in Arlington, VA; and William Kindt in Homer, AK; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many very good friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Erma Arthur and Francis Knerr, and brothers Clinton, Russell, and Jim Quigg. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, Hospice, or a charity of ones choice, in memory of Helen R. Brown.
