Gordon Gleason, almost 78, passed away on April 4, 2011 after a long struggle with cancer.
He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and after his service years in the Navy SeaBees and 11 years building custom wooden sports fishing boats in southern California, he settled in Sandpoint where he spent the last 44 years.
He leaves his wife of nearly 55 years, Sandra, along with daughters Shari Heki and Rhonda (Mike) Jepson and son David Gleason, all of Sandpoint. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and his sister Joan (Bob) Polzin of Florida. Among those missing him are his 3 tiny dogs that remained very near and gave him much comfort these last months.
Gordon spent many years keeping the wooden boats on this end of Lake Pend d’Oreille looking their best. He built many beautiful boats over the years, some of which are still out there on the lake. Gordon would want to be remembered for a job well done, both in having his family grow up to be such fine people that he was so proud of, and in turning out good work that brought satisfaction to all.
He was a quiet man who never wanted to call attention to himself. Because of that and at his request, private family services will be held at Gamlin Lake Cemetery, near Glengary Bay where he spent some of his happiest hours.
