Donald Stephen Angell

Donald Stephen Angell, age 93, died July 5, 2011, at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’ Alene after a brief illness. He was born in Moscow, Idaho, on November 19, 1917 to Mary Alta (Gilbert) and Martin Fuller Angell, Dean of the College of Letter and Sciences at the University of Idaho. He was an Army captain in World War II, commander of the 14th Chemical Maintenance Company in Europe. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He graduated from the University of Idaho in 1946 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, he went to work as a mechanical engineer for Kaiser Aluminum in the Trentwood, Washington, rolling mill. From there he worked in many Kaiser facilities in the United States, retiring from its Oakland corporate headquarters in 1982. In May of 1942, he married his college sweetheart, Betty-Joe Jeffers. She was the daughter of Helen and Dwight S. Jeffers, Dean of the School of Forestry at the University of Idaho. They had three children; Kitty, Steve and Jeff. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, Lions Club in West Virginia, and Kiwanis in Sandpoint, where he served as secretary and president during his 27-year membership. His favorite hobbies were woodworking and fly fishing. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, his twin brother Rob Angell of Walnut Creek, CA, his daughter Kitty (Tony) D’Antonio, son Jeff (Joan), three grandchildren and two great granddaughters. At Don’s request, family services will be held later. Donations in his memory may be made to Kinderhaven, Head Start, or Habitat for Humanity.
