Sophie Luise Feuerbach, 91, of Sandpoint died Saturday, July 23, 2011 at Huckleberry Retirement Center.
Memorial services will be conducted 11:00AM, Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Coffelt Funeral Chapel.
Sophie was born on November 24, 1919 in Oberstedten, Germany, the youngest of four children, all girls. She was raised and attended schools in Germany. On November 3, 1951 she married Hellmut Feuerbach. In 1961 they immigrated to the United States passing through Ellis Island before settling in California where Hellmut had family. After a short time they became naturalized citizens which was very important to them. In 1987 Hellmut decided to leave his family in California and move to Sandpoint.
Sophie was a devoted homemaker. Together, she and Hellmut enjoyed gardening, with Sophie involved in the harvesting and preserving of their produce. Sophie also dearly loved her pets, Rexina, a German Shepard, and later their cat, named Musch-Musch. They were very private people and lived accordingly. They rarely engaged in social activities, but appreciated the occasional visitor. Another of Sophie’s hobbies was needlework and crocheting which was evidenced and displayed all around the house. She also liked to read and watch German video tapes of travels and entertainment.
Sophie often mentioned that she would have like to have a child, but this was not to be, so Hellmut and her pets were her family. Following Hellmut’s death in December 2010 after years of heart problems, she had no close relatives
She is survived by her long-time friends and neighbors, Terry and Ellen Polk of Sandpoint. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three sisters.
It will be appreciated, that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to Bonner Community Hospice, P.O. Box 1448, Sandpoint, Idaho 83864.
