Josiane (Jo) Regine Smith, 86, of Sandpoint, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Creekside Inn Assisted Living Center in Coeur d’ Alene.
In celebration of Jo’s life, a potluck and barbeque will be held at her home, 11919 Baldy Road on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 2:00pm.
She was born October 12, 1924 in Paris, France the daughter of Victor and Eugenie Cotte Restout. She was raised and educated at Verrieres, France near Paris. Her family had a home at Grand Camp les Bains, France on the coast near Normandy, where she lived while the battle of Paris was raging. While there she met Ellis “Ed” Smith of Sandpoint, Idaho. They were married on August 4, 1945 at Grand Camp les Bains.
After the war, and nine months after her husband came home, she traveled to America on a War Bride’s ship. They lived happily in Sandpoint until Ed’s death on July 23, 2011. Shortly after arriving in the United States Josiane became a naturalized citizen.
Jo enjoyed all types of gardening, but especially enjoyed her flowers. She was a member of the Iris Club of Sandpoint, and along her husband was a member of the Winter Riders Snowmobile Club. She and Ed enjoyed traveling, making numerous trips to France and excursions around Europe. They also enjoyed traveling around the Northwest and Southwest in their motor home.
Jo is survived by 2 children: Lena (Jim) Harting, Dan Smith (Roxanna Johnson) both of Sandpoint; grandchildren: Danielle (Tony) Carrico of Coeur d’ Alene, ID, Heidi (Will) Rex of Helena, MT, Dan Harting of California, Jeff Harting of Las Vegas, NV, Danielle Linton of Chatteroy, WA, Kourtney Johnson and Brittney Hanson both of Sandpoint: and great grandchildren: Mia and Ali Carrico, Jacob and Adi Rex and Orion Harting; 2 siblings: Jacques (Elaine) Restout of Spokane, WA, and Jacquline Jeanne of Grand Camp les Bains, France. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and 1 sister: Rolande.
