Buford G. ‘B.G.’ Cates, 76, was welcomed into heaven on Monday, September 5, 2011 at The Bridge Assisted Living facility in Sandpoint, after a valiant, short battle with Cancer. He was surrounded by his family. Buford was born in Laverty, OK to J.C and Beulah Cates on May 18th, 1935 and was the 2nd of 3 Children He grew up in Seguin, TX. In 1957 Buford married Molly McGrath. They raised four children together along with many foster children, their marriage ended in 1982. Buford proudly served in the United States Marine Corp. He worked for the San Antonio, TX police dept. and was later a Texas Ranger and a private investigator for the railroad. Buford moved his family to Sandpoint in the early seventies where he worked for Dairy Gold, built the first storage units in Sandpoint and was a dispatcher for the police department. He ran a foster home, and preached at Laclede Community Church, Hope Community Church and Gr ace Bible Church. He was instrumental in leading many to Christ in this community. In 1985 Buford moved to the Lewis and Clark valley where he worked for Swift Transportation for 16 years. In 1998 he married Paula Christensen divorcing in2001. Buford is survived by: Molly and Alan Foreman, Lewiston, ID; Gail Allard, Liberty Lake, WA; Jay and Jana Cates, Sandpoint, ID; Jeff and Jennifer Cates, Sandpoint, ID; Hulin (Mike) Nichols, Spokane, WA, and 12 Grandchildren: Natali Pellens, Post Falls,ID; SGT Kenneth L. Pellens, Post Falls, ID; Jon and Melissa LeCroy, Lewiston, ID; AJ and Dana Allard, Post Falls, ID; Britani and Mike Bartle, Post Falls, ID; Micah Allard, Post Falls, ID; Brodey Allard, Liberty Lake, WA; Janae and Buck Lukezech, Sandpoint, ID; Jason and Angie Cates, Sandpoint, ID; Blake Plaster, Kelly Plaster, Michael Plaster Sandpoint, ID: 11 Great-Grandchildren and 3 more on the way. Sister: Brenda M. Burgett, Tennessee, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and an aunt. Buford was predeceased by His Father, JC Cates; His Mother, Beulah E. Cates; Sister, Lahoma Faye Russell; Son in law, Andrew Allard . Back in the day, he loved hunting in the Coeur d’Alenes and fishing in lake Pend Oreille. In his later years, he enjoyed riding his beautiful BMW motorcycle, shooting his guns, camping, the outdoors, walking the Lewiston dyke with friends, going out to eat, Senior Citizen discounts, long haul truck driving and playing racquet ball. He was active in the NRA as a benefactor member. He was a wonderful Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather, Memorial services will be held Friday, September 9th at 10:00 am at Southside Community Church, 251 Cocolalla Loop Rd. in Cocolalla, ID. He attended Emmanuel Baptist Church on a regular basis and has many friends and loved ones in the Lewis and Clark Valley. There will also be a memorial Wed. Sept 14, at 11.oo a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Lewiston, ID.
