Robert A. “Bob” Green, 87, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho on Sunday, October 2, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Saturday, Oct. 15th; in Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel. Dale Coffelt will be officiating. Friends may call at the chapel on Friday from noon until 6:00PM, and on Saturday until the time of services. Bob was born in Colburn, Idaho on August 4, 1924, the son of Claude C. and Lillian (Jones) Green. He was born in the section house on the Great Northern Railroad property. He attended school in Naples and graduated from the 8th grade at Colburn. He graduated from Sandpoint High School and on August 15, 1942 married Ruth Oliver in Sandpoint. In 1943 he joined the US Army Air Corp and was stationed in Pyote, Texas. He later served with the infantry being stationed in France and Germany. He was in Worms, Germany when WW II ended, also spending time in the Munich area. Following the war Bob lived in Thompson Falls, MT and worked as a logger. He continued working in the logging industry, returning to Colburn and operating logging trucks in Montana and Idaho. Bob was the maintenance man for the Colburn Water Association, and following the death of his wife Ruth, he became the secretary-treasurer of the Association. He retired, from the association in Oct. 2007. Bob was an active and long time, member of the Sandpoint Eagles Lodge. He was a member of the VFW and for many years served on the rifle squad at funerals. Bob enjoyed hard work, dancing at the Eagles Lodge, the companionship of his fellow veterans and participating in the Senior Citizen’s programs. Bob is survived by 2 sons Russ (and Sandra) Green in Gig Harbor, WA; Rick (and Nancy) Green in Port Orchard, WA; 14 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; his “special lady friend” Madeline King of Sandpoint, ID. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth, 3 brothers and 2 sisters, his daughter Vicki Elaine, and his son Robert Green, Jr. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Sandpoint Senior Center.
