Gerald “Jerry” Dull, 76, of Sandpoint, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011 at his home following an extended illness with his family by his side.
Memorial services will be conducted 10:00AM, Saturday, October 8, 2011, at Coffelt Funeral Chapel with Pastor Barry Johnson, of New Song Bible Church, officiating. Inurnment will take place in Pack River Cemetery.
Jerry was born July 10, 1935 in Portland, Oregon the son of Ward and Thelma Dull. Following his marriage to June Petit they moved to Sandpoint, arriving with their load of babies in 1961. Soon after arriving they added one more. Jerry owned and operated a service station on the Dover Highway for a few years then went to work for Paul Knaggs’ company, P & E Woodworking. He helped start that operation in Paul’s garage where it eventually grew to a large entity with many people earning their living from woodworking.
Jerry took over the molder operation on a contract basis in 1971 as J & B Enterprises. He and many employees continued on with that for several years until P & E no longer needed contract workers. He then went to work for Pack River Lumber which became General Housewares. That company moved to Illinois so Jerry stayed in Sandpoint and went to work for Nature Crest. All in the same complex he had worked for in P & E Woodworking.
In 1997 Jerry retired and he and June took to the road, traveling in many states before settling down to hunting, camping and enjoying his children and grandchildren. Jerry was also an avid Seattle Seahawks fan owning season tickets for many years and going to lot of the games in Seattle. Walking on the beach along the Oregon coast with his loyal Pomeranian companion, Cubbie, was also a favorite pastime for him.
Jerry was a long time member of the Northside Fire Department being one of the volunteer firemen who helped build stations in Bronx, Elmira and Rapid Lightning. For many years he also belonged to various bowling leagues enjoying his time with the other guys competing.
Jerry and June were married November 26, 1958 in Fairview, Oregon and enjoyed almost 53 years of marriage.
Jerry is survived by his wife June of Sandpoint: 4 children: Valerie and Larry Benda of Kootenai, Gerry and Molly Dull of Chattanooga, TN, Jona and Larry Bacon of Sagle, ID, Richard Dull and Roland Gumke of Denver, CO; 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; his sister: Val Rae and John Smith of Portland, OR; and his brother: Tom and Patti Dull of Gold Canyon, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ward and Thelma Dull as well as numerous aunts and uncles.
