Edith Viola Peterson, 97 of Spokane, former longtime Sandpoint resident passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011 in Spokane.
Funeral services will be conducted 12:00pm (noon) Friday 11-18-2011 at the First Lutheran Church, 526 S. Olive, with Pastor Dave Olson, officiating. Interment will take place in Westmond Cemetery.
Edith was born June 7, 1914 in Phoenix, British Columbia, Canada, the daughter of Richard and Johanna Elmgreen. She moved to Spokane as a young child and attended schools there graduating from North Center High School. She married Ralph Peterson on Sept. 2, 1937 in Spokane and they celebrated 73 years together prior to his death earlier this year. They moved to Pasco in 1958 then to Sandpoint in 1966 where they resided until 2006 when they moved to Spokane due to health issues.
She was a long time member of the First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint and the Westmond Homemaker Club. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and quilting.
She is survived by her children: Elaine (Brian) Stephens of Spokane, WA, Karen (John) Finney of Tacoma, WA, Cheryl Christine (Hal) Carter of Sagle, ID, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 niece: Gwendolyn Travis of CA. In addition to her husband Ralph she was preceded in death by one sister.
