Raymond O. Turner, 88, passed away in Sagle, Idaho on Friday, November 18, 2011.
A memorial service, and potluck, will be held at 1:00 pm Sunday, Nov. 27th in the Cocolalla Cowboy Church.
Raymond was born in Hagerman, Idaho on Dec. 12, 1922 the son of Emery and Marlda Turner. He started school in Hagerman and graduated from high school in Fairfield, Idaho. He worked for McDonald Douglas Aircraft and married Barbara Humphreys on July 24, 1944 in Ely, NV.
From 1944 until 1946 he served with the US Navy in the Pacific Theatre. He worked for Kennecott Copper Corp. for 11 years, in the smelter, in McGill, NV. He moved to Sagle, Idaho in 1957 where he farmed and also operated the Sandpoint Arco Service Station, retiring in 1974.
He held a private pilot’s license and established the Timber Basin Air Park in Sagle. Raymond took his last flight in October 2011. Flying was his love as well as his hobby.
For many years he sponsored the Sandpoint Injectors Car Club and was a member of Mine, Mill, and Smelters Union in McGill, Nevada.
Raymond is survived by his wife, of 57 years, Barbara L in Sagle; 3 sons Philip Turner in Sagle; Earl Turner in Eagle River, Alaska; and Rocky Turner in Post Falls, Idaho;
7 grand children, and 9 great grand children. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and 4 sisters.
