The life of William (Bill) Truby Jr. ended at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 23. He died of a brain tumor induced stroke, with massive bleeding in the brain. The speedy decline left him mercifully unaware after connecting with family so there was no suffering. He was 82.
Bill was born in Lindrith, New Mexico in 1929. He lived a cowboy’s life on a cattle and horse ranch until his early twenties when he moved to Humboldt County, California. He ran a bridge crane at Pacific Lumber Company in Scotia, California and worked a dairy cattle farm in Ferndale, California. A rather brief career of owning a dump truck and working construction ended when he moved to Napa Valley and worked in the building supply trade until in he moved to the Pacific Northwest finally settling in Sandpoint, Idaho.
The rest of his life was spent running a health food store with his
wife Carol – Tuby’s Health Mart. A testament to his healthy living was evidenced in his “40 year old” approach to life. His energy and pace could hardly be kept up with, and when his brain couldn’t function anymore his body performed with astounding ability until the very last heartbeat.
Music was his passion, starting as a young boy playing guitars with his brothers and best friend. Having a country western dance band most of his young life, that talent transferred to playing in churches and teaching his sons and daughters how to sing and play.
Bill is survived by three sisters; Fern Pollard, Molly Cathy and Doris Kenny. The greatest loss is felt by his immediate family; his wife Carol, his three sons William E (Bill) Truby III, Timothy Lee Truby, Mark Anthony Truby, and his two daughters Valerie Dressel and Rosalie Alexander.
