Joseph “Joe” E. Ballou, 88, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2007 in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, August 3, 2007 at Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor David Olson from the First Lutheran Church officiating.
Joe was born on March 28, 1919 in Madison, Nebraska the son of Gordon and Magdeline (Paulussen) Ballou. He attended schools in Madison, Nebraska. The family moved west in 1934 using a covered wagon and came to Grouse Creek. He attended Sandpoint High School and served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific area of China, Burma and India.
Joe worked his whole life as a logger, before the war, and moved to Hot Springs, Mt. where he continued logging.
In 1981 Joe retired from logging and continued to live in Montana until returning to Sandpoint in 2000. He was a member of the Lutheran church.
He enjoyed fishing and had fished commercially, and also enjoyed hunting.
Joe is survived by 2 brothers Wallace Ballou of Sandpoint, Id.; Buck Ballou of Chehalis, Washington; 4 sisters Vivian Balison of Ronan, Montana; Elaine Clark of Sandpoint, Idaho; Mary Lou Naccarato of Priest River, Idaho; Gloria (Becker) Cozort of Colburn, Idaho, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Ballou and Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Ballou; wife Margery Ballou; 2 sisters Cleo Brockus and Belva Hanson; and a brother Bernard Ballou.
