Alvan “Bud” Finney, 87, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, in Yuma, AZ.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 22nd in Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel. Chuck Wigton, Post Falls, Idaho; will be officiating with interment be in Pinecrest Memorial Park. A reception will follow the services at the VFW Hall.
Bud was born in Lusk, Wyoming on December 11, 1924, the son of Frank and Amelia Finney. The family moved to the Bronx area of Sandpoint in 1936. Bud attended Bonner County Schools, graduating from Sandpoint High School.
He served with the US Army from May 1943 until January 1946. He was stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines, earning a bronze star and the WW II Victory Medal. He was a member of the VFW for over 65 years.
Bud worked locally in the timber industry and building houses with his brothers. He also raised beef cattle on his farm in Colburn.
Bud was a longtime, and active, member of the Sandpoint First Christian Church. In retirement he enjoyed his summers in Sandpoint and spending 6 months in the winter in Yuma, Arizona visiting with friends and family.
Bud is survived by two children Gary Finney of Sandpoint and Diane Shjerve of Colville, WA; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Brothers Ed Finney and Manny Finney of Sandpoint and his sister Doris Faye Mills of Kent, WA.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, his son Duane, his first wife Opal Oliver Finney and his sister Allene.
