Margaret was born in Lorain, Ohio, on 4th September 1909, the third daughter and fifth child of Geza Victor Anater and Monica Schmidt Anater. She was preceded in death by her parents and her five siblings: Ann M. Collins, Elizabeth Kellner, William B. Anater, Fred Anater and Hildegarde M. Lazzari. When she was a small child, Margaret’s family move to Sacramento, California where she was raised and where her father and uncles were employed by the Southern Pacific Railroad. She received her early education at St. Francis Parochial School and Sacramento High School. Margaret’s lifelong profession was nursing, and she received her nurse’s training at St. Luke’s Hospital in San Francisco, from which she graduated.
One of her first nursing assignments was at the hospital in Auburn, California. It was there that she met the late Clifford Liner, who was recovering from an auto accident. They fell in love, and later married and moved to New York State, where Clifford’s family had a dairy farm. The couple had two daughters, Phyllis and Genevieve. In the east, Margaret continued her nursing career, working both in hospitals and as a private duty nurse. In the later 1940’s Margaret moved with her two young daughters to Sacramento, to be closer to her family. She continued her work in the field of nursing, working in hospitals, doctor’s offices, and later in a nursing home. She was well into her seventies when she retired from this last position of her long career.
Margaret was a beautiful red-headed woman who savored the joys of life. She was a deeply spiritual woman who cherished her family and her friends. She was a kind hospitable individual with a great love of animals, flowers and books. She enjoyed home decorating and could take unusual items to make something beautiful. She was dedicated to the nursing profession, having a great care for her patients. On her days off, she often found time to nurse family members when they were seriously ill, and once acted as a private nurse to two of her nephews who were hospitalized as children for a tonsillectomy.
Margaret is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Arne Kantola and Genevieve and Barry Nelson, by her grandchildren Arne Kantola, Jr., Laura Jones, Stephen and Michael Hare and Adam Folden; by great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, and by her loving nieces and nephews.
“She whom we love and lose, is no longer where she was before, and she is now wherever we are.” St. John Chrysostom, 4th Century.
