Kenneth "Ken" Piatt

Kenneth J. “Ken” Piatt, 88, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho on Saturday, January 21, 2012, Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 28th, in Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel. Pastor Bill Knepper, Centralia, Washington; will be officiating with interment in Pinecrest Memorial Park. Ken was born on June 3, 1923 in Sandpoint, Idaho the son of James and Bernice Piatt. He attended local schools, graduating from Sandpoint High School in 1941. During WW II he served with the US Navy in the Pacific Theatre of operations. He was an aircraft mechanic on the carrier, the USS Wake Island. Following the war he attended the Farragut College and Technical Institute. On March 22, 1947 he married Audrey Mace, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho with Wayne and Helen Hagadone as their witnesses. The family made their home in Sandpoint and raised their children. Ken was employed by the Cady and Pier Ford Dealership, as a salesman, for many years. He retired from Sandpoint Motors, selling Chrysler products, and was a past president of the Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce. He was a long time member of the Sandpoint Presbyterian Church and Lakeside Masonic Lodge # 42 AF and AM. For many years he served as chairman of the Sandpoint City Recreation Board. He participated in many local community events; including coaching and umpiring little league baseball games. He also enjoyed skiing, golfing, and hunting with his friends. Ken is survived by his children Susan (and Bill) Knepper of Centralia, WA; Doug (and Colleen) Piatt of Sandpoint, ID; 5 grandchildren David (and Amy) Knepper of Centralia, WA; Matt (and Amber) Knepper of Marysville, WA; Jonathan (and Amanda) Knepper of Arlington, WA; Marshall Piatt and Sage Piatt both of Sandpoint, ID; and 5 great grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Audrey, two sisters Mary Lee Piatt and Barbara Chichester.
