Betty Lee Mellen passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb 11. Betty was born on December 2nd, 1923 in Washington, D.C. to David and Bertha Cheseldine.
A memorial will be held in Medford, OR where she will be placed with her husband, Dick in the Eagle Point Veterans Cemetery.
She was raised in Washington, D.C. but spent much of her youth in southern Maryland along the Potomac River. Her family always had a boat and Betty became an accomplished river pilot. She married Richard Mellen in August 1944 and raised their three sons in Annandale, Virginia. In 1969, Betty and Dick were both working for United Airlines and were transferred to San Francisco, retiring in 1980. Betty and Dick then moved to Medford Oregon where they enjoyed gardening, traveling and numerous Hawaiian vacations. Betty resided in Sandpoint since 1999 and passed away in Kootenai, ID.
Betty is survived by her sister Marjorie of Virginia; three sons, Rick (Jo Robinson) of Seattle, WA , Jim (Sandii) of Sandpoint, Idaho and Dave of Cupertino, CA; grandson Jim Jr (Shauna) of Burns Lake, BC; nephew Bill Nail; nieces Brenda Hirst, Linda Moore, Darlene Nestor and Dawn Blalock. Her parents and her husband Richard preceded Betty in death.
