A. Howard Furlong, 83, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at his home in Sagle, Idaho.
Howard was born in Wetaskwin, Alberta; Canada on May 17, 1928. He attended school in Millet, Alberta, moving, with his family, to East Los Angeles in 1941 where he finished high school. He was a staff sergeant with the US Air Force, during the Korean Conflict, being discharged in 1954. On Dec. 1, 1957 he married Ruth Gates in Las Vegas, NV.
He graduated from Cal State Los Angeles with a bachelor’s degree and went to work, as an engineer, in the aero space industry. He worked for North American which became Rockwell prior to retirement. He later worked for General Dynamics, also in the aero space industry, retiring and moving to New York. He moved to the Sagle area in 2009. He was an academic and enjoyed reading.
Howard is survived by his wife, of 54 years, Ruth Furlong in Sagle, ID; 4 children Steven Gates in Riverside, CA; Howard James Furlong in Sagle, ID; Sharon Brockman in Florida; and Jennie Ivy in Huntington Beach, CA; also surviving are 10 grand children and 6 great grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother John.
Family memorial services will be held at a later date.
