Muriel Ann Tochterman, age 80, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 3, 2012. She was born April 16, 1932 in Kirksville, Missouri to Clarence and Marjorie Johnson and raised with her siblings Richard, Sheril and Ronald in Iowa. After graduating from Bloomfield High School, she attended Drake University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Completing her college education at Washburn University, Muriel earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. Muriel married the love of her life, Denis W. Tochterman, on May 8, 1965. She supported her husband’s career in the US Air Force and commercial real estate industry while briefly pursuing her own path as an educator and a member of her family business. They retired in Sandpoint, Idaho residing on their beloved Lake Pend Oreille.Muriel lovingly raised her children; her treasured role was being a Mom. While having a busy family life, she also pursued her other interests as a skilled bridge player, knitting and needle work, an accomplished pianist and gardener. Muriel was well known for her culinary talents and entertaining. Her love of discovery, travel and nature resulted in 45 years of RV life with Denis along with incredible international adventures over seven continents and Greenland. With passion and devotion, her faith and family were the center of her life. Muriel is survived by her best friend and loving husband of 47 years, Denis and their five children and spouses, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her sister Sheril Kasner, her brother Ronald Johnson and many loving relatives and friends. Services are being held at Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 9th at 10:00 AM. In lieu of remembrances, the family requests donations to WETAP youth education program at the church. She blessed our lives in countless ways!
