Jacqueline F Duffy, ne Hinkley was born in Crystal Falls, MI on July 12, 1924 and is descended from a long line of American explorers and patriots. Her Grandfather and Great Grandfather were deeded land in Northern Wisconsin from the United States government by deeds sign by President Polk and President Van Buren, respectively. Benjamin Hinkley, third Great Grandfather, served in the War of 1812 and was a volunteer in the Massachusetts fighting force. Mrs. Duffy’s maternal Grandmother is descended from the Tupper and Mosher line. In America the Tupper’s go back to the mid-1600s and Thomas Tupper was one of the five founding fathers of Sandwich, MA, the first community on Cape Cod. The Tupper’s and the Mosher’s can be traced to Sussex and Essex, England in the early 1500s, respectively, and the Tupper farm is still in the Tupper family. Three of the her five direct ancestors that served in the Army of the United State during the American Civil War gave their lives in their personal effort to preserve The Union. She was always proud that throughout the history of the United States of America her ancestors served honorably in every conflict that helped to win and preserve our freedom and way of life from the Revolution forward. Her family and descendants have proudly served in the Korean War, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Jackie grew up in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area and moved to Pasadena, California with her Father, Mother, two younger Brothers and three younger Sisters at the outbreak of World War II. She served as a quality control inspector of 50 caliber machine gun bullets during the war. She fell in love with and married John L Hall, a CPA in the Pasadena area with whom she had two children, Jacqueline Hall, Jr. and John L Hall Jr. She was widowed shortly after the war and subsequently, fell in love with and married Oliver H Duffy, a businessman and real estate developer. They had two children, Oliver H. Duffy Jr. and Maureen P. Duffy. Oliver Duffy, Sr. adopted John L. Hall and he became John L. Duffy.
Jackie had a varied and interesting life. She was a talented artist, inspirational dancer and avid tennis player. She and Oliver traveled extensively around the world and developed a wonderful art collection during their travels. She was a loving mother and devoted friend. No matter what circumstances that life brought her; she always saw the “glass as more than half full”. A smile and a positive comment was always a part of her life that she enjoyed so passionately.
Mrs. Duffy was preceded in death by her devoted Husband, Oliver Sr. and her adoring Son, Oliver Jr. She is survived by her loving Son, John Duffy of Mesa, AZ & her doting Daughter, Maureen Wiley of Sand Point, ID and Sister, Judy Adams of Temple City, CA & her Brother Leonard Hinkley of Fort Bragg, CA. She leaves us with 8 grandchildren (Anne Duffy, John Duffy, Lauren Duffy, Amber Monbleau, Glen Whitner, Case Whitner, Jacki Martin & Danny Megow) and 12 great-grandchildren. It can be truly said that she left this world a better place than when she came into it. She will be missed by all that knew her.
