Michael John Ponack, 62, of Clark Fork, Idaho passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2012.
A private memorial will be held with the family.
Mike was born in Sandpoint on June 19, 1950 to Nikolas and Darlene Ponack. He graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1968, joined the Army in 1969 and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1976.
He married Kathy Craig in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho on April 1, 1972. They had two children, Ryan and Angie. They made their home in Clark Fork where Mike enjoyed spending time with his family, taking his dogs for rides and swims, hunting, fishing and watching wildlife that came to his property frequently.
Mike worked for various companies building roads and different structures throughout the Pacific Northwest. He had an incredible work ethic, returning to work soon after he retired.
Mike is survived by his son and Air Force Major Ryan (Sheri) Ponack of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter Angie (Paul) Hefner of Laramie, Wyoming; four granddaughters, Nicole, Breanne, Casey and Magnolia “Maggie”; one grandson Liam “Bean”; two brothers, Mark (Phyllis) of Sandpoint and Eric of Hope; one sister, Linda (Forrest) Kurnes of Kuna, Idaho; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Sharon (Dewey) Ray, Maureen “Sissy” Snider; brothers-in-law, Steve, Dennis, and Neil (Jeanette) Craig.
He was preceded in death by his wife Kathy; his parents; brother Matt; father and mother-in-law, Ray and Virginia Craig; brother-in-law Duane Snider.
