Robert (Bob) L. Hill, 87, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2012 in the “Life Care Center,” in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Masonic memorial graveside services were held at Mt. View Cemetery in Ashland, Oregon.
Robert was born April 3, 1925, in Sopris, Colorado to Frank and Julia Hill who preceded him in death as well as two brothers; Otis Hill, Eagle Point, Oregon and Chet Hill, Plummer, Idaho
Robert went through naval training at Farragut, Idaho, and was immediately stationed on the “U.S.S. Corregidor,” in 1943, where he was engaged in active duty during World War 11. While at Farragut, he fell in love with North Idaho, and always longed to return. Eventually he did return, with his family, living here for 40 years. He worked for Pacific Power & Light Co. as a Power Lineman. He was, also, a member of the Masonic Lodge for many years.
Robert was an avid fisherman and made many custom-made fishing rods in addition to tying many of the flies he used. Family members lovingly take pride in the custom rods he made for them. Robert felt it was a legacy he gave them. He loved being on the water and enjoyed fishing on the Pend Oreille Lake. Gardening was another enjoyable hobby. He built the quality home in which the family has lived since 1972. He took great pride in seeing that any carpentry project was done well, no matter the size. He had an uncanny talent for visualizing something he needed, and then building it He was a bird fancier and was familiar with many of the various breeds that inhabit the Sandpoint area. He loved the great outdoors, marveling at Mother Nature’s gifts to us.
He married Betty Croxton on July 13, 1958, in Medford, Oregon. They lived there until he transferred to Sandpoint, Idaho with P.P.& L, in September of 1969. The family lived in Sandpoint, eventually building their home in Kootenai, Idaho.
In addition to his wife Betty he is survived by two sons; Steve (Jana Rae) Heberlein, Mercola, Oregon, Rob (Sheila) Hill, Priest Lake, Idaho, daughters Julie Hill, Sandpoint, Idaho, and Rebecca Hill, Tualatin, Oregon. Five grandchildren; Briana Hill, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Caleb Hill, Medford, Oregon, Denver, Cody and Hannah Garrison of the Portland, Oregon area; two great-grandsons; Bryce Crowder, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Eli Hill, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. A sister, Marie (Albert) Peterman, Sutherlin, Oregon; numerous nieces and nephews, and other family members
