Siri Thorkelson

Siri Thorkelson was born on June 6, 1919 in the Bronx, New York, and passed away on October 2, 2012 in Sandpoint, Idaho, surrounded by love. She was born to Swedish immigrants and learned to speak English in school. After graduating from High School, she worked as a secretary for Macy’s in Brooklyn. In 1943 she married Herbert Thorkelson, and they had one daughter, Carol. When Carol married Keith, Siri and Herb travelled with them through several moves from Orient Point, New York; Warrenton, Virginia; Canaan Valley, West Virginia; and ultimately to Hope, Idaho, to be with family. Siri was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Hilmer and Gertrude (Anderson), her husband, Herb, and son-in-law Keith Mearns. Siri is survived by her daughter, Carol M. Mearns Kingsley (Kelley), grandson, Scott K. Mearns (Elizabeth), granddaughter, Kimberly A. Ball (Mike) and grandson, Craig T. Mearns (Audra). She also leaves 6 great-grandchildren; Madeline & Ella Mearns, Kayla Ball, Conrad, Eleanore & Jasmine Mearns. To those who knew her …. there was only one Siri …. and she will be missed. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
