Margaret Peggy Winner

Margaret Ellen (Peggy) Winner, 82, fell asleep in the arms of Jesus, at the Beehive Care Home in Kootenai, Idaho on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007. Memorial services will be conducted in the Glendale Seventh Day Adventist Church, Phoenix, AZ at 10:00 AM, Friday, December 21, 2007 Memorial services will also be conducted at 2:00 PM, Sunday, Dec.30, 2007 in the Sandpoint Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was born to Eva and Arthur Clement in Spring Green, WI on March 4, 1925. She lived in Madison, WI until 1958, when she moved to Phoenix, AZ. She married James Thomas (Jim) Winner, on Aug. 6, 1943 in San Diego, CA. Jim served with the US marines during WW II, on Iwo Jima, being there for the raising of the flag photo. Three children were born to Peggy and Jim: Kay (and Bill) Drumwright of Sandpoint, ID; Kerry Clupper of Chandler, AZ; and Auggie (and Cherie’) Winner of Berthoud, CO. 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren also survive her. Peggy’s first love was Jesus, followed by her family. She loved to praise her children, and above all, she taught them to love Jesus, and to know him as their Best Friend. Prior to her husband’s death in 1998, Peggy loved to golf, play racquetball, bowl, and take long walks with Jim. Peggy and Jim were married almost 55 years. She enjoyed aerobics, Bunco, being a hospital volunteer, and part of the ladies “Circle,” at Concordia Lutheran Church in Phoenix, AZ.. In later years she was a Deaconess and greeter at the Glendale Seventh Day Adventist Church, Phoenix, AZ. She was a voracious reader, passing on her love for books to her children. Peggy moved to Sandpoint, ID, 5 years ago, from Phoenix, AZ to be with her family. During the last 5 years of her life, Peggy was afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease. While her short-term memory was diminishing, Peggy would smile and say, “I just remember the important things.” Each day her son, Auggie, would call to tell her he loved her and ask her to repeat 3 special bible verses that she had memorized: John 3:16, Philippians 4:13, and Matthew 5:3, and she would. The Beehive staff said that the day Peggy passed away, “Peggy just glowed, she looked radiant, and she smiled and laughed the whole day.” “Behold I show you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall be changed, in a moment, in a twinkling of an eye, at the Last Trump: For the Trumpet shall sound, the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall all be changed." 1 Corinthians 15: 51,52.
