George William Mundell, Sr.

George William Mundell, Sr., 79, long time area resident passed away Friday, October 19, 2012 in Sandpoint, ID due to complications from Alzheimer’s. Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 AM, Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012 at First Lutheran Church. Interment will take place in the Pack River Cemetery. He was born May 6, 1933 in Athol, MA, one of 14 children born to Alfred and Gladys Mundell. He graduated high school in Athol, MA. He was active in Boy Scouts of America and became an eagle scout. He remained active in scouting during his adult life and served as a cub master, scout master, and even formed a scout troop in Korea where he served following his enlistment in the USMC in 1953. He married Carol Meyer in 1958. In their 54 years together they had 4 children, 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Throughout his life he worked as an auto mechanic owning and operating the bug house in Sandpoint. George was proud to be a founding member of Idaho Panhandle Habitat for Humanity. He never passed up a chance to help someone in need, no matter if it was family, friend or stranger. He is survived by his wife Carol; sons: George (Rose), Steve (Ellen), John (Regina); his daughter: Nancy (Tim) Heeney; his 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; his brother: John; sister Charlotte and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 11 brother and sisters. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to either the Idaho Panhandle Habitat for Humanity, 1424 North Boyer Ave, Sandpoint, ID 83864 or the Daybreak Center, 321 South 1st Ave. Sandpoint, Idaho 83864.
