James "Jimmy Mac" Macumber

June 13, 1966 — December 24, 2012

On Monday, December 24, 2012 our beloved James Louis “Jimmy Mac” Macumber left us unexpectedly and much too soon to be with the Lord. Jimmy was a very loving and dedicated husband and father, and brought a smile and a kind word to all he encountered. Jimmy was born in Sandpoint, ID on June 13, 1966. He grew up in Spokane, WA, Plummer, ID and finally settled with the family in St. Maries, ID where he attended high school and played football and basketball for the St. Maries Lumberjacks, something he was very proud of. Although he played all positions on the football field, he is most remembered as an outstanding quarterback, running back and middle linebacker. Sports were very important to Jim, and he encouraged his children to play sports, hunt and fish, and live life to the fullest. Jimmy met the love of his life Abigail Cavanaugh on November 13, 1993. They were married on August 26, 2000. Jimmy has three beautiful children that he loved with all his heart: Jessica, Spencer and Bradley James. As a teenager Jimmy logged with his dad, Bill and two brothers, Billy and Rob. Upon graduation from high school in 1984 he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed in San Diego until he fulfilled his 4 year term and was honorably discharged in 1988. While in the Navy, Jimmy learned to be a jet engine mechanic. After the Navy he worked for the St. Maries River Railroad, the Santa Cedar Mill and LP Mill. In the early 90’s he went to work for Kaiser Aluminum in Spokane, WA where he worked until they went on strike. At that point in his life he decided to further his education and go back to college. He attended Spokane Community College and obtained an A.A.S. degree as a helicopter mechanic. After graduation he worked for MedStar and United Airlines. After 911 he returned to MedStar, and while he was there he went back to college and received another A.A.S. degree as a bio technician. He worked in the BioMed Department for Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, WA after graduation. He then accepted a position as a field engineer with GE Healthcare and moved the family to Columbus, MT where they lived for 3 years. He was most recently employed with St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, ID as a Clinical Engineer III where he worked until the time of his death. Jimmy lived for his family. He was very active in his children’s lives and frequently went hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and rafting with them. He also loved stock car racing and motorcycle racing and was a diehard Raiders fan. And he loved spending time on his property on Muskrat Lake Rd. in Sagle, ID, which is where he was at the time of his death. He was very involved in his youngest son, Brad’s sports. He never missed one of his football games, basketball games or track meets. He would often be seen in the bleachers or on the sidelines keeping stats and/or videotaping the game to go over and critique the plays with Brad afterwards. When he wasn’t working or spending time with his children, he and his wife were hitting the highway on the Harley or going for a cruise in the Camaro. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Abigail Macumber of St. Maries, ID, his children, Jessica Macumber of Moscow, ID, Spencer Wilson of San Diego, CA, and Bradley Macumber of St. Maries, ID, his father, Bill (Judy) Macumber of Sagle, ID, his mother, Joanne (Randy) Johnson of Garfield, WA, sisters, Yvette Macumber of Missouri and Delisa Carniegie of Sandpoint, a brother, Robert “Squirrel” Macumber of Sagle, ID, a brother, Kiley Johnson of Spokane, WA, a grandmother, Jewel Gunter (97) of Colfax, WA/Sandpoint, ID, numerous uncles, aunts, nephews. nieces, cousins and friends.
