Shirley Jean Curtis, 89, of Sandpoint, passed away Friday February 1, 2013 at Life Care of Sandpoint.
Private family services will take place in New Port Richey, FL.
She was born January 11, 1924 in Coldspring, New York the daughter of Roy and Florence Buchanan Christian . Shirley was raised and educated in Coldspring. She married Richard Curtis in 1954 at Wappingers Falls, New York.
They lived in New York until her husband retired. They then moved to New Port Richey, Florida in 1991. In October of 2011, following her husband’s death, she moved to Sandpoint to be near her son.
In her early years she worked for IBM for 12 years and later managed Cornell Jewelers in New York for 15 years.
Shirley was a member of the Eastern Star and the United Methodist Church. She was an accomplished artist, and was renowned for her paintings of lighthouses.
She is survived by her son: Richard T. Curtis, Jr. of Sandpoint, her daughter: Sheridan Mead of Newport, New Hampshire; daughter-in-law: Karen Nielsen of Sandpoint; grandchildren; Dean Elden Mead, Tammi Lynn Mead Bartley, William Richard Mead; great grandchildren: Craig Scott Ingalls, Scotty Frances Bartley, Colin Christopher Mead, Caitlin Mae Mead and Rebecca Mead. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.
