Jewel Vivian Gunter

Our remarkable Jewel Vivian (Brown) Gunter, of Sandpoint, ID, was called home to her Lord, Jesus Christ, on Friday, February 15, 2013. She was 97 at the time of her passing in Colfax, WA. Jewel was born on October 30, 1915 in Overton, Nebraska to Charles and Alma Anderson (Stryker) Brown. She met the love of her life, Clarence O. Gunter, who had worked for her father, and on April 8, 1936 they wed in Norton, Kansas. In 1937 the couple moved to Idaho where they planted their roots, had 8 wonderful children, and continued to enjoy 61 years of marriage together. Jewel’s love for the Lord, as well as for her large family, was undeniable. Both were her driving force throughout life. Spending time with family, attending church, traveling, tending to her rose gardens, cooking, playing bingo, going to yard sales, and playing penny machines at casinos, were just a few of the things she enjoyed doing most. Anyone who knew Jewel would agree that God broke the mold when he created her. She had a heart of pure gold, a smile that could light up a room, a laugh that was contagious, a strength beyond measure, and a personality that was irresistible. She very much appreciated the simple things in life, and rarely complained. Love poured out of her in every way, and her selfless character was a pure reflection of God. Jewel was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; a daughter, Goldie Raynor; a son, Cleadis Gunter; four grandsons, Donald Raynor, Billy Macumber Jr., William Gunter Jr., and James Macumber; two brothers, Albert Stryker and Cleadis Brown; and three sisters, Gladys Brown, Opal Hambel and Joyce Herrick. She is survived by sons, William (Barbara) Gunter and Floyd Gunter of Fruitland, WA, Albert Gunter and James Gunter of Sandpoint, ID; daughters, JoAnn (Randy) Johnson of Garfield, WA and Barbara (Bob) Witherell of Oakesdale, WA; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Services will be held at Coffelt Funeral Home with a viewing on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 12-6 pm. and a funeral service on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 11 am. Burial will be at Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend a gathering at the Eagle’s Lodge after the services. May all those who knew Jewel, rest on the promise of eternal life, knowing we will see her again one day.
