Irene Hawkins, 88 of Sandpoint passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Life Care Center of Sandpoint.
Funeral services for Irene will be conducted 10:00AM, Monday, May 20, 2013 at Coffelt Funeral Service. Dale Coffelt will be officiating with interment following in Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Irene was born July 8, 1924 in What Cheer, Iowa the daughter of Ezra and Wilma Rea. She graduated from High School in Shaffer’s Crossing, CO. She married Vern E. Hawkins on Sept. 14, 1942 in Olympia, WA. Vern served with the US Armed Forces during WW II.
She lived in Colorado and Portland, Oregon prior to moving to Bonners Ferry, Idaho in 1946. In 1964 she graduated from Spokane Community College as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked for the Boundary Community Hospital as an LPN. In 1969 the family moved to Sandpoint and she was a LPN for the Sandpoint Manor, retiring in 1977.
Irene had a collection of thimbles, loved to work jig saw puzzles and play pinochle.
She is survived by her daughter Verna Lutes in Sandpoint, ID; her son Jack Hawkins in Spokane, WA; three grand children Dale Harding in Spokane, WA; Staci Hossfeld in Spokane. WA; and Chris Hawkins in Boise, ID; 6 great grand children and one great great grand child. She is also survived by her brother Dan Rea in Bloomington, IN and her sister Una Colgin in Brea, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson
Dennis Harding, a brother Darwin and a sister Deawn.
