Walter “Dutch” Hamann, 85, passed away in Kootenai, Idaho on Tuesday, June 25, 2013.
Services will be conducted at 11:00am, on Saturday, June 29th, in Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel. Dale Coffelt will be officiating.
Dutch was born in Mills, NE on April 29, 1928, the son of Donald and Ella Hamann. The family moved to the Sandpoint area in 1931 where Dutch attended local schools. During the Korean conflict he served two years with the US Army. He married Hazel Brodkord in Thompson Falls, Montana. He worked, as a millwright, for area sawmills, retiring in 1983.
Dutch had served as the Mayor of Kootenai and is the past president of the Kootenai – Ponderay Sewer District. He enjoyed woodworking and building for his family, hunting, fishing and was an avid reader.
He is survived by his wife Hazel Hamann in Kootenai, ID; his daughter Carleen Pratt in Hope, ID; his son David Hamann in Kootenai, ID;
6 grandchildren Donella Clark, Carl Pratt, Kelly Goubis, Amanda Hamann, Neal Hamann, and Meghan Anderson; and 7 great grandchildren; his brother Dennis Hamann in Kootenai, ID Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews including Eric Hebert.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Wanda and a brother Donald.
