Janice Carolyn Sweeney, 74, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho on April 23, 2008.
Graveside Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 29th, at Pinecrest Memorial Park. Pastor Barry Johnson will officiate.
She graduated from high school in Long Beach, CA in 1951. She attended college in Palomar, CA until her first marriage in 1952 to Alton Gaddis. In 1970 she married Gene Sweeney and shortly afterward they moved their large family to Sandpoint. She worked at the Bonner County courthouse for many years as a clerk. She received the Bonner County mother of the year award in 1979. She returned to California to care for her ailing sister in 1986. She retired from the police department in Fullerton, CA in 1995 and returned to Sandpoint.
As a child she enjoyed many camping trips with her father on the Indian reservation. She enjoyed square dancing, family gatherings, sewing, crocheting, and making hats and afghans for family and friends. Her hobbies of recent years were playing bingo with her friends from Alpine Vista.
She is survived by her sons: Chris (Renee) Gaddis of Sandpoint, ID, Jeff (Laura) Sweeney of Oceanside, CA; her daughter: Lindy (Jim) Woody of Orange, CA; step children: Kathy Simpson, Mike Sweeney, Patty Christensen, Sue Middleton, Mary Griggs and Joan Moyle all of the Sandpoint area; grandchildren: Amy Fanslow, Brenda Gaddis, Nick Gaddis, Tristan Sweeney, Caleb Gaddis, Jacob Sweeney, Kyle Sweeney; nieces: Laurel Wilhite of Sandpoint, Leslie Moore of Anaheim, CA; and great grandchildren: Aaron Fanslow, Sophia Fanslow and Mia Brady.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Sweeney, sons: Andrew Sweeney and Jimmy Sweeney; grandsons: Josh Campbell and Adam Pelphrey, and sisters: Joyce Moore and June Campbell.
