John “Spoons” Sanborn, 58, of Sagle passed away Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013 at his home.
A memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, August 10, 2013 from 1:00-5:00PM at Garfield Bay in Sagle. A private family inurnment will take place in the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, WA at a later time.
He was born Jan. 31, 1955 in Wallace, Idaho the son of James and Ruby Sanborn. As his father was a miner they lived in various places in the western U.S. He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 18, 1974 to May 18, 1977 during the Vietnam War. He married Ruby Roberts in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho on July 19, 1975. He received his Batchelor of Science from North Idaho College.
They lived in north Idaho, later moving to Tacoma for seven years. They returned to Sagle in 1982. Spoons was a firefighter for Inland Forest Management and was also a machinist.
He enjoyed playing spoons, carving walking sticks, and all children especially his grandchildren and neighborhood children.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruby, of Sagle, 2 sons: Christopher (Amy) Sanborn of Coeur d’ Alene, Thomas Richard (April) Sanborn of Sandpoint; 7 grandchildren: Michael, Jonah, Danielle, Seth, Trinity, Oliviah, Lexi; his mother: Diane Patton of Demming, NM; 2 brothers: James Sanborn of Seattle, and Ronald Sanborn of Manhattan, NY, 1 uncle: Larry (Rose) Patton; 1 aunt: Jackie McDougall; and several beloved cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Mark Allen Rice.
