Clyde F Meredith

Clyde F. Meredith, age 91, passed away peacefully the morning of September 19, 2013. Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00AM, Tuesday, September 24th in the Clark Fork Lutheran Church. He was born Sept. 6, 1922 in Clark Fork to Clyde Meredith, Sr. and Elsie Webb Meredith. He grew up in Clark Fork until his parents moved to St. Maries where he graduated from high school. He was the quarterback of the St. Maries football team. He joined the Navy in 1941 and trained at the San Diego Naval Base. He served in North Africa (Algeria) during WW II. He was discharged in 1946. After the war he attended college at Carroll College in Helena, MT where he earned a pre-engineering degree. He met and married Fay Pedersen while in Helena on Oct. 20, 1945. He continued his education at the University of Colorado and earned an electrical engineering degree. After graduation he went to work for Montana Power and worked in Helena and Butte. When the Cabinet Gorge Dam was constructed he became part of the first operating crew for Washington Water Power. Clyde worked at Cabinet Gorge until his retirement in 1987. After retirement he and Fay enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and gardening. He built a pontoon boat and spent many hours fishing and camping on Lake Pend O’Reille and Lake Koocanusa. While working at Cabinet Gorge, he built a log home on family property on E. Spring Creek Rd. His family moved in 1954 and he lived there the rest of his life. Clyde and Fay were part of the original founders of the Clark Fork Lutheran Church. Clyde served on the Church Council. He was treasurer and filled in as pastor for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Fay Pedersen Meredith, his parents and two brothers, Ray and Cecil Meredith. He is survived by his three children: Dave (Sharon) Meredith, Joe (Angela) Meredith and Jan (Neil) Drummond. His 7 grandchildren: Mike, Staci, Lisa, Jason, Meredith, Jessie and Jake and 9 great-grandchildren. Clyde maintained his positive attitude and sense of humor to the very end…He will be greatly missed.
