Leonard Scott, 66, passed away suddenly on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, while playing his guitar, with his devoted dog, Otter, by his side.
Leonard, also known as Leo, Lanny, or Uncle Leonard, was born Jan. 21, 1947, in Chicago, Ill. He was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
In 1964, he joined the United States Air Force and served at Tan Son Nhut Air Base, a short distance from Saigon, Vietnam.
He earned his bachelor of arts degree from California State University in Sacramento in 1973. He moved to North Idaho with his former wife, Sharon, in the 1970s.
After his beloved mother passed away in 1996, Leonard became interested in social work, where he assisted mental health clients as a psycho-social rehabilitation provider at ACES Community Services. Leonard was a tireless volunteer for Bonner Community Hospice; he served as a chaplain, respite care provider, kids camp counselor, and most notably he was the lead fundraiser for the largest Hospice fundraiser held each fall-the sale of roses. After many years of going from business to business for this fundraiser, many people referred to him as “The Rose Man.”
Survivors include his sister, Lolly (Lovern) Daniels of Winnipeg; his niece, Kelly Daniels Reid and husband Ric Reid of St. Catherines, Ontario; and his nephew, Brett Scott and wife Sajani Joykutty of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He will be missed by his many friends and family.
A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the DiLuna’s restaurant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bonner Community Hospice. Cremation has taken place.
Future inurnment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery.
