Myrtle Anna Burnett

January 18, 1918 — November 15, 2013

Myrtle A. Burnett went to be with her Lord on Friday, November 15th at the age of 95. She was a resident of the Bridge for six and a half years, moving from the farm in Oden, after the passing of her husband Art. Myrtle was born to Earl and Clara Johnson on January 18, 1918 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She grew up with 5 brothers. She graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1935 at the age of 17. She attended Whitney Business School and was employed by an insurance company. Myrt married Art Burnett on March 28, 1937. They were married almost 70 years. They lived in Coeur d’Alene until 1943 in the house they built. Next they moved to their farm in Oden, Idaho (near Sandpoint) They developed a Grade A dairy business. They went out of the dairy business in the early 1960’s and raised registered Angus cattle. They sold beef locally for many years. She was a devoted wife and mother, raising seven children on the farm which suited her well. She was involved with many community activities including the Oden Busy Bees, Cow Belles, and local cattle auctions, the Bonner County Fair, Oden School Board and the Hope PTA. She served on the local election board for years. Many Saturday nights were spent at the Oden Community Hall where they worked as a team with Art playing in the western band and Myrt taking tickets and helping with the cooking. She was one of five winners for the Women of Wisdom, in Sandpoint, in 2011. Through Art and Myrt’s generosity, and kindness, they developed many friends.
