Norma Lucille Zahn

April 11, 1924 — December 28, 2013

Norma Lucille Zahn, 89, born April 11, 1924 and went to be with her heavenly father December 28, 2013. Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 1:00 pm in the First Lutheran Church. Pastors Bob Chenault and Steve Neuder will be officiating. Norma was born in Minneapolis, MN the daughter of Olaf and Christine Lee, who were immigrants from Norway. Norma was the second of three children. She attend schools in Minneapolis and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1942. Norma became a registered nurse, graduating from the Swedish Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. During WWII she was chosen to be Senior Cadet Nurse and served at Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Denver, CO until the end of the war. She met Donald Zahn on a blind date arranged by friends, they were married May 23, 1947 and celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this year. Donald and Norma had nine children and lived in Edina, MN until moving to Sandpoint, Idaho in 1973 for Donald’s job with McFarland Pole Co. While living in Sandpoint Norma took up skiing and the family skied at Schweitzer Basin every weekend. The family moved to Denver, CO in 1975. Norma worked at Swedish Medical Center, she loved her job and the close friends she made. After retiring from nursing, Donald and Norma enjoyed their retirement by traveling, skiing, going to Bronco games and spending time with their children and grandchildren. Norma was a huge sports fan. She loved entertaining in her home by cooking for others, playing bridge with friends and hosting large family gatherings. Don and Norma returned to Sandpoint in 2009 and have resided at Luther Park. Norma was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint. Norma will be remembered for her sweet and kind nature, always concerned for others. Her family will remember her as a wonderful mother, role model and friend who was always positive and full of love for all of them. Norma is survived by her husband of 66 years Donald Zahn; her nine children; Karen Roberts, Miami, FL, Nancy Holvenstot, Atlanta, GA, Steve (Carol) Zahn, Minneapolis, MN, Valerie (Casey) Jones, Ivins, UT, Barbara (Gary) Ridley, Sandpoint, ID, Judie Wagner, Atlanta, GA, David (Beck) Zahn, San Antonio, TX, Kathie (Sean) Scott, Denver, CO, Kristie (Mike) Shaffer, Denver, CO; 22 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two nieces; two nephews and many friends and a large extended family at Luther Park. She was preceded in death by her parents Olaf and Christine Lee, Sister Irene Daniewicz and a brother John Lee. Norma will be forever in our hearts and surely missed. Memorials may be made to the National Parkinsons Foundation or the Parkinsons Association of the Rockies.
