Lubov (Lucy) Saulinskas was born June 29, 1918 in Volchansk, Russia and passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday night, February 13 in her home in Sagle. Lucy was 95 years and eight months old when she passed away.
Lucy went to elementary school in Sumy, Ukraine and attended secondary school in Charkow, Ukraine.
When Lucy was 16 she and her sister Clara were forced into a slave labor camp at Auschwitz. She was able to walk away and made her way with her family to Austria. While in Austria she gained valuable on the job training as a nurse. Later her family decided to come to Ellis Island and they settled in New York City for a year and a half. She later moved to Cleveland, Ohio and eventually to San Francisco where she worked as a nurse for 17 years. It was in California that she met and married her husband, Alex in 1977 and they moved to the Sandpoint area in 1982.
Lucy loved to quilt, embroider, and work in her garden where she had lots of flowers, trees, and berries. She loved all kinds of animals, but especially cats, dogs, and horses. She also enjoyed taking her husband on his many fishing trips. One of her favorite TV comedies was “I love Lucy!”
Lucy was preceded in death by her husband Alex, her sister Clara Kreiden, and her brothers Nicholas
Kreiden and Vechislaw Kreiden. She is survived by her brothers Feodor (Fred) Kreiden of Sagle, Idaho and Steve Kreiden of Mill Valley, California, and 5 nephews and 6 nieces.
There will be a memorial service celebrating Lucy’s life at 1pm on Wednesday, February 19th at First Baptist Church in Sandpoint, Idaho with a reception to follow.
