Verlyn J Syth

Verlyn J Syth, 80, passed away in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on Tuesday, March 4, 2014. Family services will be held later in the spring. Verlyn was born on March 11, 1933 in Sidney, Montana to William and Helen Syth, one of 18 children. The family moved to Heron, Montana where he attended school. He was inducted into the US Army on March 15, 1956, serving in Germany during the Korean conflict, receiving his honorable discharge on February 3, 1958. On April 11, 1959 he married Jonell Payne in Baldwin Park, California. They lived in El Monte, California until moving to Sandpoint in 1966. He drove fork lift for the Louisiana Pacific sawmill, in Sandpoint, until his retirement in 1995. For many years he raised, and sold, exotic birds also enjoying the hunting opportunities in North Idaho. He is survived by his wife, of 54 years, Jonell Syth in Sandpoint; three children Darryl Syth in Sandpoint; Dale Syth in Sandpoint and Diane Sumpter in Ponderay; 17grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister Alta in Missouri; and his brother Billy in Post Falls, ID. He was preceded in death by his parents and 15 siblings.
