Georgia Mae “Georgie” Leonard, 87, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho on Sunday, April 6, 2014.Memorial services for Georgia will be conducted 10AM Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Coffelt Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Jim Osman of the Kootenai Community Church officiating.Georgia was born August 21, 1926 in Sheridan, Wyoming to Mary and Arthur “Ginger” Headden. The family traveled from Sheridan to Sagle, Idaho in a horse drawn wagon when Georgia was one year old. As a young woman Georgia married “Shorty” Bowman and together they had three children: Ernest, Connie and Dixie. That marriage ended in divorce and on June 7, 1964 Georgia married Leonard Leonard. Georgia and Leonard lived in the home that had been Georgia’s prior to her meeting Leonard, a house on Dearborn in Sandpoint. Georgia and Leonard started building a new home on Johnson Creek in 1978 and moved in on New Year’s Day in 1980.Georgia loved sewing, thrift store shopping, going to church, taking flowers to the fair and partaking in the festivities. She was especially fond of meeting with her friends from the Red Hat Rascals each month. Georgia was well known for her volunteer work with the VFW and American Legion Women’s auxiliaries.She spent her last three months at Evergreen Sandpoint Assisted Living which immediately became home to her. The residents and wonderful staff there became family to her and she was very happy.Georgia was preceded in death by her mother and father, a half-brother Ira Preston Hughes, brothers: John and William (Bill); a sister Barbara; her husband Leonard; daughters: Connie, Dixie and a niece Eloise.She is survived by her son, Ernest of Sandpoint; three grandchildren, George Nush of Sandpoint, David (Dana) Nush of Everett, WA, Amy (Justin) Nush of Sandpoint. She is also survived by two great grandchildren: Erin and Oden; two step grandchildren: Terry Nush of Mt. Vernon, WA, Jerald Nush of Everett, WA; Heather Foster of England (U.S. Air Force) who was considered a granddaughter; brother-in-law Gerald (Red) Sarff a niece Fonda Sarff; two nieces on Leonard’s side of the family: Valerie Brown, Jocelyn Buck and a great niece Stephonie Sweeney. She is also survived by her best friend Doris Dingman and her cat, Jane and numerous friends and the staff at Sandpoint Assisted Living.If desired donations may be made to the Kootenai Community Church Building Fund.
