Sally Englert

Sally Flaherty Englert, beloved wife of Eugene R Englert Sr (Jan 15, 1925-Aug 18, 2001) and mother of 7 living children passed away peacefully in Sandpoint, Idaho April 5, 2014. She was 86 yrs old.  Born at St Mary’s Hospital, Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Francis Alva Flaherty and Frances Marie Fitzgibbons on Sept 5, 1927. The family lived in Minneapolis, Chicago and mostly in Owensboro, Kentucky where her father’s family owned & operated the TJ Turley Company.  Sally was the oldest of 5 children: twins Joseph Richard Flaherty, Owensboro and Carolyn Flaherty Jones deceased San Diego, CA, Sue Flaherty Phelps, deceased San Diego, CA and Dennis Flaherty, deceased Newburgh, IN While attending Mt St Joseph College, Sally met Eugene R Englert. She traveled to Waipau, Oahu, Hawaii to marry the young officer Feb 26, 1946.  After active navy duty the couple moved to Evansville, IN. close to relatives in Owensboro. Shortly after the birth of their first child Gene and Sally were transferred to Louisville, KY, where they lived until the children were grown.  Sally directed the choir at St Rita Catholic Church and sang with a local group The Carousels; worked successfully in sales with Tupperware and Artex; and finally as Real estate broker. With a transfer to Jacksonville, FL, Sally continued her real estate business and opened her own office.  As an active member of St Paul’s Catholic Church with a beautiful soprano voice she sang and directed choir.After the death of her husband in 2001 Sally moved back to Louisville with her son Mark until going into Belmont Village Retirement Home. There she continued to sing, made new friends and visited with her sons Richard, Gene, Chris and their families. Sept, 2011 Sally moved to be close to her daughter Sally and family in Sandpoint, ID She was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church.Survived by her paternal aunt Margaret Flaherty Smith, and Brother Joseph Richard Flaherty of Owensboro, KY, and most of her children.  They are Kathy Lynn (Harrison) Lee Portland, OR, Grandchildren Romer (Elizabeth) and g grandchildren Shawn Garza, Jackson & Aidan Brown. Hillary F Brown; Savannah Teller Brown & g grandchild Ronan; and Seth Brown (Kenya Spiegel) g grand baby May 2014.  Stephen (Annie) Lee, g grandchildren Sophia and Liam Eugene Raphael Jr, Corbin, KY,  grandchildren Gene III (Leslie), g grandchildren Aubrie & Tommy Carmel (Matt) Alves, g grandchildren Preston and Salem; Emily (Matthew) Clark, g grandchildren Matt, Logan & Tenley; and Grandson Timothy Joseph Richard, 1950-1052, and Mark Thomas (1951-2010) Louisville, KY Richard Flaherty (Connie), Louisville, grandchildren Patrick (Jerad Burton) and Jennifer (James) Copeland, g grandchild Lucy Christopher Martin, (Michele and children Kayla and Christopher grandchildren Caleb, Marty, Peter and David.  Sally Joan (Gerhart III) Suppiger, Cocolalla, Idaho, grandchildren Gerhart, Madeline, and Caroline Louisville friends Betty and Harold Haering, and Phyllis Costello, Louisville, KY and extended family in Owensboro. And Rev Cory in Ireland and Rev Sullivan in Jacksonville. Your blessings and prayers are appreciated for the family and friends who will miss Sally’s presence in this world. We were blessed to have her as our mother and our father as our father. They loved us very much, and gave us Roman Catholic values we live by today.  Funeral services will be held at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home Owensboro with Mass April 12, at St Stephens Catholic Church Owensboro, KY. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
