Ralph Leroy Chicks, 80 of Ponderay passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at his home. Private family services will be held at a later time. Ralph was born June 17, 1933 in Sandpoint, Idaho the son of Ralph and Emma Chicks. He attended elementary school in Colburn, Idaho and graduated from Sandpoint High School. He then attended Linfield College for 3 years and the University of Oregon for two quarters. In 1956 he returned to Sandpoint and on May 2, 1956 married Dohnlee Isom and they were later divorced. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Texas. He returned and began working in the planner mill in Dover. He later began his career with Pacific Power as an equipment operator where he remained until his retirement. He was married to Dorothy Hazelton on October 18, 1980 in Creston, B.C. and they then lived in Ponderay for the remainder of his life. Ralph enjoyed woodworking and furniture refinishing, was a collector of old bottles and appreciated antiques. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Ponderay; 3 sons: Jeff (Anna Marie) Chicks of Sagle, Guy Chicks of Coeur d’ Alene, Ralph Randall Chicks of Hayden; by 7 grandchildren: Guy G. Chicks II, Gus G. Chicks, Brandi M. Chicks, Christina S. Carroll, Krystal A. Stefanski, Sarah E. Chicks, Jacob Nathaniel Chicks; 8 great grandchildren and 1 brother Chuck Chicks. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Crane and Susan, Bonner Community Hospice and the wonderful staff at Valley Vista for the wonderful care extended to Ralph.
