Lois Elizabeth “Betty” Strand, 90, a long time resident of Sagle passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Huckleberry House in Sandpoint. She died as the result of a stroke.
A celebration of her live will be held at a later date.
Betty was born on Oct. 13, 1923 in Mitchell, South Dakota to Reverend Albert Hartt and Laura Beal Hartt. Betty graduated from high school in Miller, South Dakota in 1941. Shen then went to Berea College in Kentucky for two years. In 1943 she joined Cadet Nurse Corp. in Mitchell, South Dakota, later transferring to Malden, Massachusetts to continue her training.
It was in Boston, Massachusetts that she met her future husband, Oscar Strand on a blind date. He was serving in the Navy aboard the battleship New Mexico. Betty and Oscar were married on August 14, 1946 by Betty’s father. They were married 67 years and 9 months.
Together they were partnered with Oscar’s parents in running their dairy farm and later took over the farm.
Betty provided a loving environment for her family. She was an excellent cook. She enjoyed doing embroidery, reading, going for long walks and going on many road trips.
In addition to her husband she is survived by sons: Steven (Kristina), Jay, Kurt (Catherine); daughter: Sunny; grandchildren: Roni Regovich, Melanie Lawson, Tony Strand, Shane Strand; nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.
A gentle, childlike soul, Betty, treated all with kindness and respect. Her family was the center of her life and she blessed us all with her tenderness and love.
