Kathy Sydney (Slack) McIntire went to Heaven on Monday, May 12, 2014.
Kathy was born in Saco, Maine on September 25, 1954 to Patricia Theresa (Dumont) Slack and Sidney Frederick Slack. She forever cherished the memory of her beloved Jenkins Road home in Maine, where she was raised with her seven siblings. At the age of 11, Kathy moved with her family to Adak, Alaska. This is where Kathy met her husband of nearly 40 years, John McIntire. They moved to Sandpoint, Idaho to begin their new life.
Kathy was “Momma” to Denise Marie Blomer (Harrison Blomer) and Christine Patricia Lehman (Michael Lehman.) If you asked her if she loved her daughters, she would say, “yes, but she loved their children even more.” Being a “Meme” to James Dylan Hunt, Drew Hunter Shelburne, Taylor Brooks Hunt, Gabrielle Rose Shelburne, Chiara Rose Kathy Lehman, Mackian Elijah Blomer, and Brandi Leigh Bernice Lehman was her shining achievement in life. Those precious grandbabies lit up her world with love. They were “too wonderful for words” in her mind.
Miss Kathy leaves a tremendous legacy in the heart of Sandpoint, Idaho. Her biggest gift was her love of children. For nearly two decades, she was a beloved Kindergarten teacher and owner of St. Francis Preschool. Her reassuring, smiling face gave comfort to all the young parents of her students. They knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that their children would be cherished and guided into loving, compassionate people with the utmost of integrity. It was important to her that every child that left her care would be able to read, but also truly felt the love of Jesus and radiate his love. She led countless classes of kids over to the Sandpoint Manor to sing for the elderly. She taught those children that everyone has value and deserves to be treasured, just like she treasured every one of them. This legacy is remembered by so many decades of children in the Sandpoint community. Many of them count her as one of the biggest influences on their lives. She was an inspiration to her staff and coworkers. She taught them many lessons on how to interact with children.
Kathy was pure, bright, gorgeous love. She was the most giving, selfless person you would ever meet. She would give the shirt off her back to anyone if she thought they were in need. She had the ability to make people feel loved and genuinely special. Most everyone in her life had a special nickname and she never forgot it.
Kathy will always be a treasured gift to the Sandpoint Community and her lessons will live on in the hearts of those she blessed. To her family, her traditions, values, memories, laughter, and unconditional love will leave a void that will never be replaced. The twinkle in her eye and her contagious smile will live on forever in their hearts and memories. She is now joyfully teaching all the beautiful children in Heaven waiting for the day that her beloved family joins her.
We Love you more Momma . . . Meme. . . a bushel and a peck. We love you to the moon and back.
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” ~ Mark 10:14
