Marguerite "Maggie" Sherwood

Marguerite (Maggie) Sherwood, 79 of Sandpoint, Idaho passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 15, 2014. Maggie, a lifelong Bonner County resident, was born on August 26, 1934 the daughter of Hardin and Mabel Dockins. She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Richard (Dick) W. Sherwood on August 1, 1953. They were married for 59 years until his passing in 2013. Together they raised 2 children, Wayne and Julie. Maggie was a loving wife and mother who loved her family unconditionally and was there for them whenever they needed her. She loved spending time with friends and family; she spent many hours camping, traveling and visiting with people. Maggie volunteered at the Bonner County Historical Society and was an avid reader. She enjoyed researching local history and took great pride in writing "This Day in History" articles for the Sandpoint Daily Bee newspaper for 20 years. Another of Maggie’s hobbies was painting. She was a self-taught artist and spent many hours painting beautiful outdoor, country, and floral scenes. Maggie also enjoyed teaching painting and craft classes. She is survived by her son Wayne (Laurie) Sherwood of Tulsa Oklahoma; her daughter Julie (Brad) Palmen of Eugene Oregon; five grandchildren, Dustin, Robert and Tyler Sherwood, Kate (Casey) Calamusa and Kelsey (Justin) Felt; and 4 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister Judy (Wes) Felland of Sandpoint Idaho. She was preceded in death by her husband Dick, her parents, and brothers, Sam Dockins and Pete Dockins. Memorial service will be held Friday May 30, 2014 at 1pm at Coffelt Funeral Chapel with a dessert reception immediately following at the VFW Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bonner County Historical Society
