Meryle Jane (Janie) Van Stone died peacefully at the age of 96 on May 29, 2014 of natural causes with her family by her side.
She is preceded in death by her parents August and Anna Rojan and seven brothers and sisters, her husband Chester E.(Chet) Van Stone, her sons, Alan and Mark Van Stone and her grandson Jason Van Stone.
She is survived by her children Gary (Alice) Van Stone, Dale (JoAnn) Van Stone, Anna Marie (Mike) Fels and Jamie (Daphne) Van Stone, as well as 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Janie Van Stone was born on August 17, 1917 in Kootenai, ID and graduated from Hope School in 1935. She married Chet Van Stone in 1941 and raised her family on a grade A dairy farm in Hope, Idaho. She loved her flowers and vegetable garden; canning pickles and green beans were her favorites. Janie loved fishing for Kokanee Salmon on Lake Pend 'Orielle and Lake Koocanusa in her later years.
She is famous among her family members for her crocheted towels, hangers, knitted dish cloths, doilies and baby blankets. Her handwork is beautiful and she continued to stay busy with that until her passing. She cherished taking care of her animals. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma. Janie loved family gatherings, especially at the farm. She was the matriarch of the Van Stone family and has left a legacy for her family for years to come.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 10:00 am, in Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel. Interment to follow in the Hope Cemetery.
