Gilman "Gil" Francis Gibbs

Gilman Francis “Gil” Gibbs, 84, of Dover passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 in Sandpoint. Memorial services will be conducted 1:00 pm, Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Coffelt Funeral Chapel with Dale Coffelt, officiating. Inurnment will take place in Pinecrest Memorial Park. Gil was born May 23, 1930 in Wilmot, NH the son of Gilman and Doris Brunt Gibbs. He attended schools in New Hampshire. After completing the 8th grade he started working on the farm with his father. He served in the U.S. Army as a light truck driver during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal with 5 bronze stars. On May 15, 1952 he married Katherine May Wright in Littleton, NH. The family moved to Dover, Idaho in 1965 where he has since resided. Gil worked as a logger with his father in the Priest River area, worked at the Dover Mill; was a long haul trucker for Systems Transport and operated the Colburn landfill until his retirement in 1992. He also served as a Westside Fire Commissioner. In the early 1950’s Gil started playing the guitar and received a lifetime of enjoyment from it. He enjoyed playing for family, friends, at retirement centers and for Coffelt Funeral Service. In addition to his wife Katherine he is survived by 4 children: Pamela (Susan Gibbs) McFerren of Reno, NV, Danny Gilman (Debbie) Gibbs of Green River, WY, Sally May Gibbs of Dillon, MT, Sandra Lee Gibbs of Sandpoint; 1 brother: Robert Merton Gibbs of Belmont, NH; a sister Katherine (Cecilia Gibbs) Carpenter of Arnold, CA; 6 grandchildren: Jaci, Danny, Morgan, Claire, Rise, Benjamin; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ronald and two grandchildren, Stephanie and April.
